Easy Cooking ~ Tasty Bacon and Egg Pie
Do you ever have a picnic? The thing I love the most to eat is a really tasty bacon and egg pie. Don’t forget the BBQ sauce! I have a great recipe of Bacon and Egg pie and I make it often. We like it hot with Mashed Potatoes or cold the next day with some fresh bread and butter. It makes a great item for a school lunch and is also a great gift to take to someone who is sick or elderly. I must admit I don’t make my own pastry, but lately I have been having difficulty purchasing Frozen pastry sheets where the pastry has been made with real butter. I have tried out the pastry made with margarine and there is something not so nice in the flavor. I choose not to eat margarine at all as its really just a mix of chemicals that are not good for our body at all. Hers how I make the wonderful pie.
Ingredients:
Diced Bacon
Diced Onion
1 dozen egg
Milk
1 cup Grated cheese
Frozen Puff Pastry Sheets
Now:
What I find best is to line the pie dish with the pastry and pop it in the oven for about 10 minutes on 350F. This lets the base of the pastry crisp up and stay dry.
Fry the bacon and the onion together in some olive oil till the bacon is crisp and the onion is cooked. Let it cool a while.
Now add the bacon and onion mix to the dish on top of the pastry.
Add 12 eggs on top of the bacon. I like to open the yolks with a knife to spread them around.
Put another sheet of pastry on top. Seal the edges with water.
Use a knife to put a few holes in the pastry to let the air escape.
Cook for 1/2 to 1 hour on 400F till the pie is cooked and golden.
Enjoy!
You can serve this pie with a lovely salad and mashed potatoes or as I said take it to a picnic and enjoy it cold.
