Yakatori Rolls

Years ago my first husband bought a stall at a market. The market was held inside a building and the stall looked like a Polynesian hut with an open counter. Every friday evening the smell of garlic and and satay sauces permeated everything in our house as he made his sauces for the weekend. This business was very busy and he worked pretty hard. He made his money then sold the stall onto his Sister and Brother In Law after a couple of years, who also made a nice profit then sold it to someone else.Today my quick food recipe is one  that he sold at that market. It is extremely easy and any teenager could make it for the whole family. These days I buy the sauces or just use what we have in the house. We still enjoy the Yakatori rolls as much as ever.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 Lbs Beef Mince

Water

Spices:

1 1/2 teaspoons of each of the following dried spices

ground ginger

chicken stock powder

Paprika

Chilli

Black pepper

Salt

Sugar

Mixed Spice

Curry Powder

Cayenne Pepper

Long Bread Rolls

Satay Sauce

BBQ sauce

Garlic Sauce

Tomato sauce

Now:

Throw your mince into a wok on high heat and stirfry

Put in all your spices at the same time

Stir fry till the  mince is cooked and the spices are aromatic

Add some water….about 2 cups and then turn the heat down and let it all simmer away

The water will make a tasty sauce

Cut the bread rolls longways then fill them with the meat mixture

Add whatever flavored sauce that you like on top

Enjoy!

These Yakatori rolls would be great for a teenagers party as they are very filling and tasty and yet easy to make. We found out later that the word Yakatori is actually Japanese and  stands for a chicken dish. We didn’t mind, we still eat these and enjoy them. Our sons loved them really really spicy, in fact if their lips went numb then they thought they were about right. If your family feels the same way then I would double the chilli and the black pepper. However I prefer to enjoy the taste not the spicyness.
